The world’s heaviest man has married his girlfriend in front of TV cameras and 400 guests in Mexico.
Manuel Uribe was taken to his wedding on the bed he has been unable to leave for the last six years, towed by a truck, in his home town of Monterrey.
The 43-year-old tipped the scales at 560kg (88 stones) in 2006, but has since shed around 250kg (39 stones).
A tearful Mr Uribe married Claudia Solis, 38, in a ceremony filmed by a US TV channel.
Mr Uribe earlier told reporters: “I’m very happy this is a really special day for me. God has permitted this day to arrive and for a beautiful woman like Claudia to marry me. We will start a new adventure together.”
No cake
Mr Uribe’s custom-made bed was decorated with a canopy, flowers and gold-trimmed bows at it was towed by a truck through the streets of Monterrey to a local hall for the civil service, the Associated Press news agency reported.
He wore a white silk shirt and a sheet wrapped around his legs, while his bride wore a strapless ivory dress and tiara.
Instead of a first dance, the pair are reported to have sat together, holding hands and swaying to the song.

Mr Uribe’s mother, Orquedia Garza, said her son had steered clear of the five-tiered wedding cake – a vow he made when he announced the date of his wedding at the start of the month.
“He didn’t break his diet,” she told the AP. “His doctors are here and they are watching him closely.”
Manuel Uribe, a former mechanic, entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s heaviest man when he weighed 560kg – the weight of a small truck.
He has since been following the Zone Diet – consisting of a strict formula of carbohydrates, proteins and fats – which has enabled him to nearly halve his body weight. However, he remains unable to walk.

He met Claudia four years ago and the couple were engaged for the last two years.
The wedding was filmed by the Discovery Channel for a forthcoming documentary.

how many of u know someone or have done it urself? ive heard of alot of women buying their wedding dresses (and regular clothes in general also) a few sizes smaller then they are at the moment in an attempt to motivate themself to lose weight..i can see how that would be motivation but on top of the stresses of planning a wedding..do u REALLY want to be dieting too? any thoughts or opinions or funny stories about this? easy 2 points people (as long as u answer other than yes or no lol)
i am NOT the one getting married..my college room mate is engaged and is considering doing this because she thinks it’ll give her that extra push to stick to the diet (shes not overweight at all) i dont forsee myself doin this on my wedding day…i dont want a dress that will explode the second i sit down or eat something (which i plan to do at my own wedding..bring on the cake!!) in the event i dont lose enough weight and its too tight haha

Oh me, LOL … I have seen and heard this so, so many times and you know what? It’s usually at the least a waste of money and at the worst a total disaster when the bride simply can’t squeeze into the dress on her wedding day and it’s way too late for alterations. Here’s a thought, so the bride lives on toast and water to get into her gown, making herself miserable and snotty along the way, and then passes out from near starving herself just as she gets partway down the aisle. Talk about a great wedding – NOT !!! It happens …. and it doesn’t take weeks of not eating well to do it! Buy the size you are and if by some miracle the bride does lose the weight prior to the ceremony taking a gown IN is a lot less work then trying to find enough material in the seam to let it OUT a few inches! And if that isn’t all bad enough, think about what not eating right does to your skin and the way your hair looks … a voluptuous bride with gorgeous hair and glowing, unblemished skin is SO totally more attractive then one who is skinny with lank, lusterless hair and zits!

i just got engaged and plan to be married within the year and my fiance and i plan to start a family soon after. i want to get in shape and be healthy not only for my wedding but also so i will be healthy when we decide to get pregnant, he is already in excellent shape and health other than diet but its me who needs to do most of the work. ok, first things first, i am a pack and a half a day smoker i have tried to quit cold turkey for 3 years and i always come back to it, i am going to buy the patch today, as a result of smoking my cardio is shot. also we have budget restraints due to the wedding, so gym memberships and expensive health food is out of the question, currently i eat mostly fast food and drink mostly soda. i never exercise because my cardio sucks and i also have bad knees from cheerleading in highschool so jogging and running even when i was in good health was extremely painful. someone please help me with inexpensive diet tips and at home exercise plans please help!

You will find that as you decrease the amount you smoke, your ability to do cardio will improve. (I enjoy smoking, but I quit it, too. You can too — I traded exercise for smoking!)

For exercise, do you have a bike? How far is it to work? If it’s possible, I’d get on a bike for your exercise. It will do amazing things for your knees (I am doing this for my knees: I have added to my daily gym visit, 15 minutes/5 days a week on the stationary bike — wow, my knees feel better than they have in years.)

Okay, something else that you can do at home: rent some DVDs and try yoga. I tried it about a year ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. You can even look up poses and get tips online. I just bought us two new mats for $19/each. There are less expensive mats (I saw some for $16, but they were too thick).

Something that you can do in life. I have read it a lot but in my experience it really works: take the stairs, park far from the mall/store/office, get off the bus two stops before your regular stop and walk. I used to have to walk 15 minutes to catch the train — I would vary my route and try to speed up or slow down but after doing this for a few months, my legs became much more defined.

Diet? Well, I’d just say… buy fruits and vegetables that you like and try to increase your good foods and decrease your bad foods intake. Don’t buy spinach if you hate it and try to choke it down — that won’t help you at all. But, if you have a thing for broccoli, then buy it and eat it every way imaginable. Do you like yogurt? Eat up — that stuff is good for you. Do you enjoy cereal? Buy the Go Lean or similar brands that are high fiber and protein and low carbs and sugars. It’s tough to just wake up one day and say: things are going to be different today! Very often it is discouraging because we don’t see immediate results. But, these things do take time — stick with it and do not give up! (And, remember to allow yourself "wiggle room" to slip on the diet plan once in a while, or to take the escalator instead of the stairs.) Set your goals small and celebrate your achievements — even the smallest things all add up to something bigger. Good luck to you — you can do it!

My brothers wedding is in 3 weeks and i want to look good in my dress, but lately i have been gaining a lot of weight. i need a healthy diet (or not even a diet) plan. i want to lose a few pounds for the dress, but not to go extreme.

The USDA has a web site:

http://www.mypyramid.gov/

It tells you how to eat healthy and even gives some sample menus.

This is why everyone should diet sensibly!

I realise it’s not a question but take a read of this article and tell me what you think.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/859751/fat-bride-dies-using-wedding-diet

That poor woman. That’s tragic. Her fiancee obviously loved her regardless of size or there wouldn’t have been a wedding day for her to worry about. I wish the media would stop showing everybody what they’re supposed to look like. Then there would be less pressure to look perfect. Which in all honesty most people need lots of help with! I get really fed up with media coverage of who’s put on weight, who’s ridiculously thin, and who needed photoshopping to look good. What shape can you be without being picked on? She looked really pretty in that photo and it’s a shame that she felt such pressure. I’ve been working on losing weight through exercise and sensible eating and it’s hard work. But I’m doing it because I want my body size down to a healthier BMI and I’m doing it slowly and steadily. I realise lots of women want the fairy tale wedding but it shouldn’t have cost her life.

i am happy with my weight just scared im going to gain because im nervous lol and quick diets?

Don’t do the Slimfast stuff. I know of someone who got ill doing that and you certainly don’t want to be sick on your wedding day. I would eat my biggest meal for lunch and then eat a salad at night. Stay away from desserts and alcohol. If you really need sugar or salty snacks go to www.weightwatchers.com and buy a box or two of their treats. They really are delicious and don’t taste like ‘diet’ treats. And, no, I don’t work for weight watchers lol
